Whether you are using the software only (LAN), or the
RPC Connection Service (INTERNET), you need to download the software to the computers on both ends of the connection.
Some users can connect the software over the Internet without RPC. For mostly technical reasons, 70% cannot.
If you are using NT/2000/XP or greater and do NOT have administrative rights, contact us before proceeding at

Client = Guest Computer or Accessing Computer
Server = Host Computer or Computer to Be Accessed
1. Download the software (rpcsetup.exe)
on the computer you want to access remotely. Open rpcsetup.exe. Click Install.
On the next screen click Next to install to default directory.
|
 |
|
2. Choose "Make this PC controllable from other PCs". Click Next.
|
 |
3. Click New to create an account for every person who will have access to this computer.
Do not confuse this password with the RPC Number/password (see step 4). The password you are entering at this screen
will be known only to you. You will be prompted to enter it on a client (guest) computer when connecting to this computer.
You can set different permissions for each user account. You also have the ability to see who is Connected at any
given time by clicking on the Connected Users page.
|
|
4. If using RPC Service, click on the Internet page. Otherwise skip to step 5.
Make sure a live Internet connection is available.
Cut and paste the 7-digit RPC number and the password from your email and click OK.
Wait until you see Connected as shown on the picture. Connected means that your computer is now ready to accept incoming
connection requests from other computers.
You will want "Automatically connect on startup" checked if you want this computer to be accessible when unattended.
If Internet connection is dropped, Access Remote PC will automatically keep reconnecting.
|
 |
5. If NOT using RPC Service, click on the LAN page. Otherwise skip to step 6.
This page lists the name and IP addresses of your computer.
- You will need Network IP or Computer Name for local network connections.
- You will need Internet IP for Internet connections.
Note that on some LANs and for most ISPs the IP addresses are dynamic. Dynamic means that the IP address of your computer
will be new every time you connect to the Internet or every time you restart your computer (for LAN IPs).
You will need to know the current IP to be able to connect. To avoid this, use RPC Service for Internet connections (see step 4)
or use computer name for LAN connections.
Connecting to a computer BEHIND a router or firewall? Click here.
You will want "Automatically Start Listening on Startup" checked if you want this computer to be accessible when unattended.
|
 |
6. And finally, TO CONNECT:
Open the CLIENT program on the computer you are ACCESSING FROM
(Under Programs/Access-Remote-PC/).
Enter the appropriate IP address if you are using the software only.
- OR -
Enter the 7-digit RPC number if you are using it to connect over the Internet.
If connection to the remote computer is established successfully you will be prompted for the username/password
you set up in step 3.
